Mayo Clinic

For my field experience at Mayo Clinic I accumulated approximately 150 hours by observing and completing projects for an outpatient dietitian at Mayo Clinic in Menomonie, Wisconsin. This dietitian worked with primarily diabetes patients but also counseled individuals who struggled with obesity, eating disorders, or food allergies. I was able to work on various projects that consisted of designing handouts that helped people make low-calorie choices at popular fast food restaurants. I paired menu items together that were less than 500 calories and consisted of items that represented at least 3 food groups. Overall, I was able to learn counseling techniques for medical nutrition therapy and the roles of both inpatients and outpatient dietitians.

Mayo Clinic: Projects

Kwik Trip Handout

One of the projects I completed for the dietitian at Mayo Clinic was a handout that gave healthy breakfast options at Kwik Trip. A lot of the patients struggled with finding healthy on-the-go breakfast items. Therefore, many patients found this helpful to guide them in choosing a healthier option.
