Ambulatory Outpatient 

UW-Health's General Nutrition Clinic

​In this rotation, I observed a dietitian for 1-week in a general nutrition clinic. I had the opportunity to practice motivational interviewing techniques while counseling patients for lowering total cholesterol and weight loss. I also observed techniques for counseling patients with emotional eating or eating disorders.

Free Choice: UW-Health's Carbone Cancer Center  

For my free choice ambulatory rotation, I observed an outpatient dietitian for 2-weeks in UW-Health’s Carbone Cancer Clinic. The dietitian saw patients primarily with head/neck cancer and pancreatic cancer. I had the opportunity to lead a few sessions & completed chart notes for the various patients.

UW-Health's Diabetes Clinic

For my diabetes outpatient rotation, I observed an RD/certified diabetes educator for 2-weeks at UW-Health’s West Clinic who saw patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. I also was able to observe a dietitian and nurse who conducted 3 separate diabetes classes for those who are newly diagnosed. They reviewed the ABC’s of diabetes, carb-counting, nutrition label reading, and medications.
