Public Health Rotation

Metropolitan Madison School District
Madison, WI

For my public health rotation, I completed 5-weeks at the production center for Madison Metropolitan School District.

Some of the projects I worked on included:

  • Updating training materials on both the School and Community Summer Food Program

  • Working with quality assurance to update Summer Nutrition Program Food Safety Standard Operating Procedures

  • Created a more efficient procedure to label HAACP food items that are repeatedly pulled in/out of the freezer

  • Attended a Food Council Board meeting that consisted of various city officials involved in Madison's food supply and policy. At this meeting, I observed a presentation on a community orchard for the city.

  • Observed breakfast and lunch periods at various elementary, middle, and high schools in Madison.

  • Attended a webinar on Preparing for the Coronavirus: Steps for Foodservice and Restaurant Readiness and created a draft of facility procedures in the case of an COVID-19 outbreak and presented preventative measures at a manager meeting

  • Attended various department meetings regarding policies & procedures for coronavirus preparation

  • Designed a poster on information regarding coronavirus and sanitation procedures (pictured below).

  • Created a training PowerPoint for staff that highlighted the nutritional benefits of the National School Lunch & Breakfast Programs.
