Children's Hospital of Wisconsin

To finish up my field experience hours, I had the opportunity to work with some of the dietitians at Children's Hospital. I was able to shadow a handful of dietitians that specialized in diabetes, gastroenterology, cystic fibrosis, neonatology, oncology, and genetics. I was also able to be involved in some projects that included writing newsletters, putting together recipe packets, as well as planning and presenting a couple nutrition education lessons.

Children's Hospital: Projects

Vision Forward Nutrition Lesson

I had the opportunity to plan and present a nutrition lesson to a group of children that were blind or visually impaired. My lesson consisted of teaching them about MyPlate with the use of sectioned paper plates as a sensory aid. I also included a sensory activity that consisted of the children feeling the difference between ripe and over-ripe fruits. To finish, we guided the children through the steps of making a smoothie. The goal of my presentation was for the students to gain more independence in their ability to eat healthy.
